Inspiration

Inspiration...a simple word for something so non-simple. This is my cat, Mickey. Mickey spends his days sleeping in the canvas chair on my teeny back-porch. He doesn't complain about the heat or the cold, or the humidity or the rain. He just "is." He takes advantage of what time he has (he is 12+ years old, so who knows how much longer I will have him in my life?). He sleeps with me, gets up whenever I do, eats a bit, and goes out for his naps. He comes in when he is hungry again.

Mickey doesn't fret, and I would like to be able to say the same for myself. But I haven't reached that point yet.

Pushing Myself

Pushing is something I would rather do to someone else - but it seems to be the more effective when I push myself. And that takes a lot of doin.
I have been trying some new techniques in the studio - pushing myself to paint more and think less. Well, that's not correct; painting is thinking, just in a different way. Truthfully, if I had to be cognizant of all the decisions necessary to make a painting, I would never get started. I think I would just go back to bed.
"Hyatt Creek," painted from a photograph that a friend made, is one of the most recent things to come from the studio.
